Viktor&Rolf

  • Viktor Horsting & Rolf Snoeren are fashion designers who have worked together as Viktor and Rolf since 1993. Renowned for the cut and proportion of their designs they turn recognisable, classic forms into unfamiliar features. Both born in 1969 in the Netherlands, they teamed up the year after they graduated from the fashion department of the Academy of the Arts, Arhem. As fashion designers, their cross-referential approach is partly a product of the cultural climate of their native Holland, which perhaps more than most places, enjoys a more mercurial interplay between the arts.

Yves Saint Laurent

  • Yves Saint Laurent was born in 1936 and raised in Oran, Algeria. His talent for design became evident as a teenager and at the tender age of 17, he left for Paris with the determination to work in a major fashion house. Dior hired the young Saint Laurent and until Dior's untimely death in 1957, he was his best designer. It was not too long after that the still young Saint Laurent would open his own personal fashion house. His first collection for the line, entitled Ligne Trapéze won him global critical acclaim. Saint Laurent had emerged triumphant. In 1960, his "beat look" had spawned a revolution in the fashion world, where couture became integrated in common street wear. He invented the smoking suit for women and the classic pant suit. With a fashion empire in place, Saint Laurent announced his retirement in 2002.
